The Youth Ministry of First Baptist Church exists to help teenagers grow to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. We do this through balanced activities designed to cover two vertical and two horizontal aspects, represented in our logo.
Heart, soul and mind
We strive to connect with God and serve Him with ALL of our being:
Heart - emotional
All of our passion for God and our zest for life
Soul - physical
Most people confuse "soul" with "spirit" but soul simply means life, breath. "He breathed into man the breath of life, and man became a living soul."
Mind - intellectual
Trusting God doesn't mean leaving our brains at the door. The Bible tells believers to have both the heart of Christ and the mind of Christ
As the cross in our logo represents, we maintain balance in four relational directions, two vertical and two horizontal. Every month, we plan activities focusing on each of these four directions:
1. Up: Talking to God in prayer and praise
-Prayer requests: praying for requests made during class time
-Worship services: participating in Sunday worship with entire congregation
- Music: singing a special song for Sunday morning worship, several times a year
- Devotion: encouraging individuals to spend time daily in conversation with God
- Arts: using drama, drawing and other art forms to express devotion to God
2. Down: Hearing from God through Bible study
- Studying the Bible in class time
- Taking notes during messages in worship services
- Encouraging personal Bible study on a daily basis
3. In: Building up our fellow believers in the faith
- Encouragement: encouraging other believers to grow to maturity
- Discipleship: teaching ourselves and others
- Fellowship: having fun and getting to know and appreciate each other
4. Out: Reaching out to others
- Service: Serving needs in our community
- Evangelism: Sharing our faith with those who don't know Jesus
- Missions: Taking the Gospel to others through support for and participation in missions
